One Small Check Box, One Giant Leap for Project Server

June has arrived and so soon will Service Pack 1 for Office and SharePoint 2010 technologies including Project Server 2010. Along with the typical hundreds of bug fixes, the Project Product team has managed to deliver some impressive and much needed functional improvements to the system. One of these is the ability to add automatic publishing to automatic acceptance rules.

After installing SP1, Project Managers will see a new checkbox in the Edit/Create Rule page that allows them to select a checkbox to auto-publish after accepting the rule. This small change enables many working field scenarios where it is not practical for the Project Manager to be continuously opening and publishing their project plans so that PWA displays current information after automatic acceptance rules run.

Can you imagine how this might improve support for various tracking scenarios in your organization? Get ready for SP1!
